The Cincinnati chapter serves veterans primarily in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. The Cincinnati chapter is focused on karting and works with service-disabled veterans with traumatic brain injuries (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and physical injuries.
Partnership with Veterans Administration TBI and PTSD Rehabilitation Center at Fort Thomas, Kentucky
In January 2013, Racing4Vets launched a partnership with the VA to formally include indoor kart racing as a mandatory physical and cognitive development activity in the Cincinnati Veterans Administration PTSD/TBI rehabilitation program at Fort Thomas, KY. This is an intensive program open to men and women veterans from all U.S. military branches. Approximately 20-30 veterans from the VA program attend monthly indoor kart driving events run by Racing4Vets at Full Throttle Indoor Karting in Springdale, OH. Each program provides assessment and treatment of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injury using a curriculum of Cognitive Processing Therapy, group and individual sessions and physical activities. Clinical studies conducted by the Veterans Administration and National Institute of Health indicate significant improvement in cognitive abilities and reduction of symptoms from participation in the PTSD/TBI program. For more information on the success of the program, see this NIH study overview and VA study (PDF file).
